ABOUT BANGKOK
History
Bankok AKA Krung Thep Maha Nakhon or Krung Thep (City of Angels) for short is the capital of Thailand. The city was a small trading center in the Ayuthtaya era which was the capital of Thailand until it was burnt by the Burmese army in 1767. A new capital was then established at Thonburi on the west side of the Chao Phraya River before Bangkok was instituted as the new capital in 1782 by King Rama I the Great,the first monarch of the present Chakri dynasty. Currently, there are more than 10 million people live in the City of Angels and it is the center of the country's spiritual, cultural, diplomatic, commercial and educational.
Topography and climate
Bangkok is located located at 13?45?N 100?31?E on the east banks of the Chao Phraya River, a
main river in Thailand. The city covers an are of over 1,568.7 km?, making it is considered one of
the largest city in the world.
Bangkok has a tropical monsoon climate that cause uncomfortably hot and humid throughout the
year and cause daytime temperature reaching over 30 c degree throughout the year. November to
February is the driest and coldest time of year and the best time to visit the city whereas March,
April and May are the hottest months. The rainy season begins from June to October.
Districts
The administrative subdivisions of Bangkok subdivisions under the authority of the Bangkok
Metropolitan Administration are divided into 50 districts according. The Bangkok CBD include Silom,
Sathorn, Sukhumvit whereas Ratchadaphisek area was turned into a business district thanks to the
highest growth rates in 1990?s. Wireless Road and Chitlom are renowned as Bangkok?s most
expensive areas. Ratchaprasong and Sukhumvit are two main areas served as shopping district for
both local and foreigner.
Primary residential areas for middle class people are located in north and eastern Bangkok such
area are Lad Prao and Sri Nakarin. The area surrounding Suvarnabhumi Airport in the east is
experienced a rocket increase for the eastern expansion of Bangkok as Don Muang was for the
north. Western Bangkok in Thon Buri are is also one of the growing locations, approaching the
degree of development experienced by the north and east.
Demographics
Around 6 million people have been recorded as number of population in Bangkok but the actual
number is considered to be much higher. The population of Bangkok comprises of Thai, Chinese,
Japanese, Indians, Americans, Europeans, Taiwanese, South Koreans, as well as Nigerians,
Malaysians, Singaporeans. The vast amount of immigrants and expatiates make the number of
population of the city a vibrant one.
Approximately, there are 45,000 Europeans live in Bangkok recorded as the highest citizenship of
Europeans in any city in Asia except Singapore whereas there are 30,000 Japanese contributed to
the highest Japanese population outside Japan.
